Rocky Mountain Equine Hospital offers a clinical externship program that provides veterinary students with the opportunity to gain surgical, medical, and reproductive experience in a private practice setting. Typically, externships are 2-4 weeks in duration, and students are asked to participate in after-hours emergencies, and assist with care of hospitalized patients. “Hands-on” experience will be dependent on the particular student’s level of knowledge and clinical skills.
The purpose of the internship is to serve as an intensive training opportunity for the candidate seeking future residency or employment in specialty level equine practice. Our philosophy is one that includes interns as essential members of our case management team; therefore, interns are responsible for all in-patient treatments, as well as assisting with out-patient appointments, anesthesia and surgery, and semen collection and processing. In addition, interns are expected to be available to assist with all after-hours emergencies.
Internship positions at Rocky Mountain Equine Hospital also provide an exceptional opportunity to participate in treatment of severely injured equine patients including amputation and artificial limb care.
Internship applicants are encouraged, but not required, to complete an externship. Please visit the AAEP Avenues website for more information. Future long-term employment opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
Applicants should submit a letter of intent, resume, and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Summers at email@example.com
