Dr. Claire Summers
Dr. Claire Summers, owner of Rocky Mountain Equine Hospital, is a graduate of the College of Veterinary Science, Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, where she served as the Western Australian Student Representative for Equine Veterinarians of Australia. During her time in this role, she was also active in pursuing research involving equine assisted reproductive technology, and was honored to receive several awards including the Murdoch University Summer Research Scholarship, the Bain Fallon Young Member Scholarship, and the EVA Young Members Group Scientific Poster Award, for the poster she presented at the EVA Bain Fallon Memorial Conference.
Originally from West Virginia, Claire completed her undergraduate studies at West Virginia University, where she was captain of the equine judging team. Following graduation, she worked as a vet tech at several small animal and equine clinics, including Virginia Tech’s Marion DuPont Scott Equine Medical Center, before moving to Australia.
Dr. Summers has a special interest in surgery and podiatry. She also loves to travel and enjoys camping, hiking, snowboarding, snorkeling, and fishing. She is excited to now call beautiful Wyoming her home.
Dr. Ted Vlahos
Dr. Ted Vlahos, founder of Rocky Mountain Equine Hospital, is available to our clients on a consulting basis for advanced medical and surgical cases. Dr. Vlahos also serves as the Equine Regent for the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and is a member of the AAEP’s Professional Conduct and Ethics Committee.
Dr. Chad Foust
Dr. Chad Foust grew up in Upstate New York, where he spent several years working for TheraVet Acres Rehabilitation and Fitness. He then attended Kansas State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. During his time at Kansas State, Dr. Foust held several positions within the Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Kansas State University Horseman’s Association. Dr. Foust spent his summers throughout veterinary school working as a manager at SK Horses in Colorado. He has a special interest in lameness and equine reproduction. In his free time, Dr. Foust enjoys riding, hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors.
We are happy to have Shanna join us as the veterinary assistant and operating room technician at our Sheridan location, where she is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sterility of the surgical suite and instruments. She also plays an integral role in patient care, and assists with minor procedures as well as major surgeries. Shanna grew up in Casper, Wyoming, and is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management. She enjoys riding her horses, working on the family ranch, and cross country skiing. While she has many years of experience working with horses, she is eager to further her knowledge here at RMEH.
